3 ADVANTAGES OF VENEERS

So What Is a Dental Veneer?

A veneer is a thin porcelain shell we attach to the front surface of a tooth to mask various cosmetic imperfections. They are incredibly lifelike and durable, lasting over a decade for some patients.

Come to an Experienced Dentist

for the Best Cosmetic Treatment

Dr. Arbuckle has been in practice for more than two decades, providing a comprehensive selection of cosmetic dentistry. We want our patients to be able to choose the best procedure for their needs. Out of all our options, dental veneers are so popular because they provide some of the most natural-looking results.

The difference between veneers and alternative treatments, like bonding, is in the substantive material. Porcelain looks incredibly similar to natural teeth, with the same translucency and light-reflecting properties of enamel. The skilled technicians at our partner dental lab are specially trained to hand-craft veneers and consistently exceed our patients’ expectations.

When it comes to your smile, no detail is overlooked to ensure stunning picture-perfect results. You can find out more about treatment by scheduling a consultation at our Wilton, CT, dental practice. Reach us online or by calling:

Candidates for Dental Veneers

During your consultation at our Wilton practice, you and the dentist will discuss your treatment needs and goals in detail to determine if veneers are right for you. Some factors we consider before moving forward with treatment include:

Oral Health

It is important to have healthy teeth and gums before getting dental veneers. If you are suffering from tooth decay or periodontal disease, Dr. Arbuckle will first treat you with restorative dentistry so you have the ideal foundation for veneers.

Tooth Density

In order for porcelain veneers to lay flush with surrounding teeth and not look bulky, we need to remove a small layer of surface enamel. The best patients have good tooth density to remain strong with these modifications.

Goals

While veneers are one the longest-lasting treatment options, they will not last forever. Every 10 years or so, you will need to replace the old shells with new ones. Good candidates understand the procedure is irreversible and are willing to commit to this occasional maintenance.

A Closer Look at the Procedure

Treatment is easy, and most patients find the procedure completely painless. After removing a fine layer of surface enamel, we take impressions and craft your porcelain veneer. When they are ready, they are attached to the designated teeth with a durable dental adhesive.

Your Treatment Timeline

Porcelain veneer treatment usually involves two appointments at our Wilton practice over one to two weeks. Here is what you can expect during the procedure:
  • 1. TOOTH PREP

First, our dentist will prepare the teeth you want to treat with veneers.  We carefully remove a small amount of enamel and recontour the edges.

  • 2. IMPRESSION

Using a high-tech digital scanner, our dentist takes virtual impressions of your smile to design the custom-fitting veneers. We select the optimal shade of porcelain to match your natural teeth and send the information off to our trusted dental lab.

  • 3. PRODUCTION

Technicians at the lab hand-craft each veneer to your teeth’s precise dimensions, ensuring a snug, natural-looking fit. It takes about a week for the finished restorations to be returned to our office. In the meantime, we can place a temporary veneer to conceal the modifications to your tooth enamel.

  • 4. PLACEMENT

When they are ready, you will return to our Wilton office for your second appointment. Final preparations are made to the tooth, including once last cleaning and buffing of the surface. Our dentist then bonds the shell to your tooth surface with a special cement cured under a UV light. The process takes just a few minutes. After they are securely in place, your treatment is complete.
